Westchester votes to stop commercial barge plan

News 12 Westchester: Opposition is growing to the Coast Guard’s plan to anchor commercial barges on the Hudson River.  The Westchester Board of Legislators voted unanimously to pass a resolution to try and stop the Coast Guard from creating 10 anchorage sites.

The commercial barges would be anchored in the river from Yonkers all the way up to Albany. People are concerned about the environmental impact because many of the barges will carry large amounts of fuel.The government agreed to extend the public input period until December because of all the concerns.  Watch the video.
